What is PMC?

Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is a clay-like material that contains 100% pure silver microscopic particles. It is combined with water and an organic compound to make the material workable. Once dry the piece is fired, burning off the organic compound leaving a 99.99% fine silver piece. There are different types of PMC for different types of applications, all having their own qualities and benefits.

This revolutionary material has made making precious metal jewelry very exciting as there are certain process and technique that can not be achieved in regular metal-smithing techniques. Aside from the kiln (which is the preferred way of firing PMC, but it can also be done with a torch) the tools required for making PMC jewelry are very inexpensive and somewhat common items.

PMC jewelry can be as simple or intricate as one desires. That being said there are certain techniques and tricks one should know when starting to work with PMC. If you are interested in learning more about PMC jewelry and taking a class, please visit my class page.
